Overview

There are many reasons why a person would want to draft or update a Will. These could include marriage, divorce, birth of a child, starting a business, investment in a large asset (such as a house) or growing wealth.

If a person dies without leaving a Will, or if the Will is not valid for any reason, the beneficiaries will be determined according to legislation - the Law of Intestate Succession. The law will then determine who the closest blood relatives are and distribute the assets accordingly. This may differ from the people who you would have chosen to benefit from your estate.
